Churngold Construction Ltd has come a
long way since it was founded in the 1970s.
Operating from its base in Bristol, the
groundworks and civil engineering company
has extended its activities to cover more
than a hundred mile radius of the city as
well as across the UK.
With employees from the age of 18 to 72
in NVQ training, Churngold Construction are
leading the way in learning and development
across Bristol and proving that there are no
boundaries to improving skills.
The growth and success of the company is
not only a result of the quality of equipment
and relationships that it has with major
suppliers, but is also largely due to the
highly skilled workforce, who continue to
develop thanks to the Train to Gain Service
and the commitment of Churngold Training
Manager, Paul Lord.
How they N-GAGED
In 2006, Paul Lord began sourcing support
for a company-wide training scheme
which would deliver nationally recognised
qualifications to employees who are
continually deployed across different sites.
N-GAGED were asked to co-ordinate this
delivery and monitor the scheme
with a specialist training provider, Wyvern
Training and source funding to support
the scheme.
Paul was able to delegate the organisation
of the training to N-GAGED, and Churngold
have benefitted from thousands of pounds
of funding, a flexible delivery model which
works around the operational demands of
the business and now this original project
is leading to further work in providing
training at higher levels.
“Thanks to the relationships built with
the providers, site supervisors are now
undertaking higher-level NVQs and “Smarter Builder” training opportuntities.
Strong links have been made with N-GAGED,
who are taking over 40 employees
through the NVQ2 in Plant Operations
with funding from Train to Gain.”
Churngold is keen to encourage employees
of all ages to continue training and prove
that there are no barriers to learning.
Testament to this is 72-year-old Machine
Operator and Foreman, Shaun Foley,
who has enrolled in an NVQ2 in Plant
Operations with training providers
Wyvern in partnership with N-GAGED.
His involvement has sent out a great
message to everyone at Churngold and
the wider community that continued
development is for everyone regardless
of age.
